Pages & Information Your Website Should Include
Home Page
Your home page is where most people arrive at your website. It's the first thing most visitors see. This is your chance to establish credibility and trust with visitors.
Your Home page is your first impression, just as a storefront sets the tone for brick-and-mortar businesses. You will have a chance to make any sales pitch, or share samples of your work on the other pages of your site. The home page establishes trust, and invites the visitor to further explore your site.
It is important that visitors to your site can find the information they want quickly and easily. Most people won't stay long if they don't find valuable information right away.
Letting people know who you are, what you do, and what you have to offer will add credibility and put visitors at ease. Let visitors know what they can expect to find on the rest of your site.
Do you offer work samples, testimonials, products for sale, helpful information, or special offers? Your home page is the perfect place to share this information.
Make sure the information you display on your Home page is clear and concise. A large block of text on a home page is likely to scare off visitors. However, do not leave out important information. Remember, your home page is your chance to make a first impression.
If you make a good first impression you can count on the potential client visiting another page to read about you. Clearly state anything you want to share with visitors first.
The Products or Services page
On the product/service page you should have a detailed description of all of your product(s), service(s) or anything you wanted to list with a description. It's a great place to have testimonials and product reviews and pictures.
The most important aspects of a service or product listing page, are the headlines for each of the items. Every product/service listed should have a headline and an opening hook, designed to get your reader to click on the item to find out more.
This page should contain the services you provide, or products you offer, that are most likely to turn a visitor into a customer. As with all pages on your site, establishing credibility and trust is important.
Try to offer as much clear information as possible, without being too wordy. If you can, reassure visitors by including text that reinforces credibility, such as awards, recognition, testimonials, and guarantees.
About Us
The About Us page is often one of the most visited pages on a Web Site. This is because visitors to your site are often looking for information to assist them in deciding whether you're credible, before investing the time to further explore your site.
An effective About Us page can distinguish you & your organization from others. It builds credibility and trust by personalizing.
You may want to begin your About Us page with a mission statement. A Mission statement is a strong branding tool for businesses that often inspire visitors to become customers.
The About Us page is a good place to include history about yourself and your company. A little background information goes a long way in establishing confidence and trust in potential customers visiting your site.
It is important to keep this information clear and easy to understand. Some points you may want to include are:
- How long has your organization been established?
- What is the purpose of your organization?
- Who are the people behind your organization?
- What can your organization offer visitors to your site?
- What are your qualifications?
- What is your experience and history within the industry?
Here I like to include a picture of the individual whose website it is, pictures of the company & other employees, and a product or service picture.
Contact Us
Most have come to expect a link to this page, so I do include them in all websites. But! It's important that potential customers can contact you via a click or call from every single page (a few times). Websites I design have a means of contact on every page.
Privacy Policy
This reassurance is something people on the Web specifically look for (and all too many web designers leave out!). If you want people to share their information with you, you really must assure them that they can trust you to do so.
This is another thing I like to have appear on each and every page - 100% privacy assured. Of course, that really must be both your & your company's policy. As long as it's the truth, let people know that you/your company alone are the only one(s) that are going to use their contact info and in only the way they've intended.
